Gold discoveries in the Eagle Valley district resulted in the birth of a mining camp called Deerlodge in the mid 1890s.  In 1899, discovery of even richer veins only a mile away led to the establishment of the town of Fay.  By 1901, Fay had four saloons, barbershop, stores, post office, and stage service.  After the gold ran out in 1915, both Fay and Deerlodge were abandoned.
